USTA Kansas National Tennis Month festivities include proclamation, social events

National Tennis Month, which took place in May, was an incredible one for USTA Kansas. This monthlong celebration featured several opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to hit the courts for some tennis and tennis-related activities.

Proclamation

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly declared May as National Tennis Month through a state proclamation. A group of representatives from USTA Missouri Valley, USTA Kansas and USTA Heart of America—Mary Buschmann, Amy Mathew, Macy Mathew, Kate Foss, Alex Lee, Don Eccles, Tracey Johnson and Manon Eilts—received the proclamation on April 25.

Kids’ Events

Several events for junior players took place across USTA Kansas last month, including two Try Tennis for Kids events in Salina, USTA Junior Circuit tournaments and Level 3, 5, 6 and 7 junior tourneys. Three orange ball/green ball tournaments were also held during National Tennis Month.

Adult Events

Events for adult players was another cornerstone of National Tennis Month. These events included social ones like Cinco de Drinko and Tropical Triples at Genesis in Salina. A training in Wichita in early May was held for adults to learn more about bringing tennis to physical education classes.
